Why This OS?
The preceding chapters have presented a wide range of information on the computer boot process, hard disk partition layout, and related information. Now it's time to begin the process of installing your new OS. This process should actually begin with an evaluation of your OS needs, before you do anything to your hard disk in preparation for installing an OS. Installation continues with checking your hardware for compatibility and preparing your system for the installation. I've touched on many of these topics in previous chapters, but this chapter provides a more detailed look at them.
