When to Run an Emulator, Multi-Boot, or Use Multiple Computers

Emulation is one of several possible solutions when you need to run multiple OSs. Each option has certain strengths and weaknesses:

  • VMware— VMware is a good way to gain access to software designed for one OS when running another. It can also be a great way to test software or configurations before using them in your regular OS installation. Particularly if you're diligent about backing up your VMware virtual disk files, you can quickly recover even from serious software problems when you use VMware.
