Exchanging Documents via Email
Email can be a convenient method of exchanging documents. These days, just about everybody who uses a computer has an email account, so you can use email to send documents to friends and colleagues around the world. Because the Internet's email protocols are standardized across different OSs, you can exchange email even when you and your correspondent use entirely different OSs.
The fact that the email protocols are standardized does not, however, mean that the documents you exchange will necessarily be readable on a remote computer. When you exchange a document by email, you should make sure that your recipient can read the file.
