Foreword

The accelerating pace of innovation in technology over the past several decades has brought about profound changes, perhaps nowhere more than in the information and communication media which pervade our lives. I am tempted to say we live in a truly wired world, except that the pace of development in wireless local area networks and advanced cellular transmission is rendering the actual presence of wires increasingly superfluous. Whether wired or wireless, we live in a connected world, whether we want to or not. Being disconnected and anonymous is less and less an option.
