In 2001, I became a faculty member of The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI) and began teaching a full-day workshop called BI from Both Sides: Aligning Business and IT. At an event where database administrators and IT architects comprised the majority of attendees, the workshop drew an immediate following. The IT audience wanted to understand how to work more effectively with businesspeople, whom they considered hard to reach. Disengaged. Barriers to progress. The list went on.
