This chapter presents a concise history of the field and profession of organization development (OD), from its beginning in the late 1940s to the early 2000s. There are so many people who created, explored, adapted, and applied theories, ideas, and interventions in creating this history that it is not possible to name all of the significant individuals and their contributions.
