That’s how I think about learning lighting. When you learned the basics of photography, everything was Latin to you then. It’s the same when you start learning about flash. It all seems like a bunch of mumbo jumbo. This chapter is all about clarifying the terms that go along with learning flash. I personally do not think you need to know all of the things I’m going to outline in this chapter in order to start using flash. I think studying flash terms without studying flash function is useless; much in the same way I think learning a language is useless if you’re not learning the culture that goes with it.
