Chapter 7Computed Columns

Computed columns were introduced in Sybase ASE 15 to provide easier data manipulation and faster data access. This chapter gives an overview of computed columns, explains materialization and deterministic properties, and explores their impact on computed columns. This chapter also discusses the benefits of computed columns.

Some of the ASE system stored procedures and tables were enhanced to support computed columns. These changes are listed at the end of the chapter.
