Chapter 14The MDA Tables
The MDA tables were first introduced with the Sybase ASE 220.127.116.11 release. So why, then, do we include this topic in a book designed to highlight the new features of ASE 15? There are several reasons. First, the MDA tables are relatively new to Sybase ASE, so new in fact, that despite their years of existence, few database administrators use them due to lack of experience. Second, with the release of ASE 15, the opportunity exists to track the usage of semantic partitions from the MDA tables. And lastly, of course, with any migration from one release to another, spotting performance regression as well as tuning the new release optimally are common exercises; MDA tables provide the utilities to accomplish this.
