8 Layers
I keep referencing layers throughout this book, so let’s get into them. You can absolutely make great edits in Luminar without using layers at all—that’s the whole point of having so many editing tools at your disposal. However, Layers add another dimension to what you can do with Luminar.
Yes, that’s a cliché, and it’s also a small joke (the other dimension is Z, because you’re stacking edits on top of each other). But layers open up possibilities. You can apply several instances of the same tool, for example, or try different editing experiments and then discard the versions you don’t want.
Layers do introduce complexity, though, which is what this chapter is all about explaining.
