Cropping is one of those fundamental tools that every photographer needs at some point. Yes, even if you get it right in camera you still may need to crop a photo to change the aspect ratio for a certain print size or client requirement. Other times a good crop can remove unwanted distractions from the edge of a photo or can even create a completely new photo by cropping a vertical orientation out of a horizontal original (and vice versa).
You may be thinking that the Crop tool in previous versions of Photoshop was just fine the way it was, and I can appreciate that point of view. However, once you get used to the new options built into the tool I don’t think you’ll want to go back.
