Conclusion

During the writing of the last edition of this book in 2004, there was much social concern over the intrusion of video surveillance on people’s lives. From today’s perspective, CCTV cameras in city centres are commonplace. However, with the increasing ‘democratisation’ of photography – which has been one of the key themes of this book – the techniques of surveillance have been placed in the hands of anyone who can afford the (moderately priced) equipment.
