Motivating Students with Academic Rewards

The Photography Experience Point (PXP) system is based on a game-like practice used in the Department of Art and Design at Adrian College. It is an incentive-based strategy for encouraging photo students to engage the larger photography community by encouraging them to look outside their own limited circle of professors and peers. “Rather than focusing specifically on academic achievement, the game instead encourages the positive social behaviors that lead to academic success” (Stott & Neustaedter, 2013). Any kind of photography-related, experiential learning students engage outside the classroom is worthy of being rewarded by PXPs.
