Chapter 19 Course Assignments
The Photo Assignment
Photo assignments help students establish a regular habit of making images that, teachers hope, will continue for a lifetime. Assignments are creative circumstances devised to inspire students to learn through the direct experience of making photographs. “An assignment can take the form of a lesson, a game, a starting point, or a challenge” (Fulford & Halpern, 2014).
One of the truths of photographic education is that we solve problems to learn. It is through learning by doing that we make the greatest strides in learning photography. In rough terms, the majority of the active learning situations in photography are seen in the assignments we give.
