10. Using a Photo Reference for Painting
In this project, you’ll use a photo reference as a guide for sketching and painting. You’ll set up a still life and photograph it, and then create a palette of colors and build custom brushes to use with a tablet and stylus. After that you’ll use the photo as a guide for sketching and painting. To organize the illustration, you’ll separate the elements of the image—the photo, sketch, loose color, and details—on individual layers, so that you can make changes to one without affecting the others.
