A fourth way of systematically scaling your platform is focusing on both sides of the platform simultaneously. Micro-market is about starting a platform in a small, often local market. The objective is to attract a critical user mass and establish strong network effects in a distinct market first. Once this goal is reached, the objective is to expand into a second and third micro-market to ultimately integrate them.30 Micro-markets can be based on local regions but also dedicated product categories.
