FEDERAL AND STATE LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT LAWS: AN OVERVIEW
During pre-production you will be hiring your cast and crew. This means that in addition to the service contracts you negotiate with them, you also must comply with state and federal employment laws.
Federal and state employment and labor laws govern discrimination, wages, workplace safety, child labor, and workers' compensation/disability/unemployment insurance. Under these laws, an employee may be treated differently by the law than an independent contractor.
