A Comic Creator’s Guide to Moral Rights & The Visual Artists Rights Act
MORAL RIGHTS
Moral rights, sometimes referred to by the French name droit moral, are a collection of rights that allow the author of a work to have a say in how that work is used and whether it can be changed in any way.
Moral rights may include:
• The author’s right to be credited for the artwork or to refuse to be credited.
• The right of an author to prevent the artwork from being changed or altered in any way without the author’s permission.
• The author’s right to determine how the artwork is shown.
• The author’s right to receive royalties from the artwork.
