There are plenty of times when I am setting up a shot and I have no idea what I am trying to get to, exactly. I just know that I want to change what I see in front of me, but I want to do so in as positive a manner as possible. “Be Positive” can be such an overused term; it barely holds the meaning it used to convey. To be more specific, I care that I transition my subject from one look to another in as positive a manner as possible because I know how it feels to stand in front of the camera. I actually advise photographers to experience the act of having your portrait taken as often as possible.
