In the life cycle of every conflict, there is a point when it's large enough to be recognized, but small enough to be resolved.
Choosing the right 2 × 2 matrix is as much an art as a science. The obvious danger is overreduction: simplifying complex realities in unhelpful ways. A useful matrix cuts to the essence of what is being investigated and presents an accurate and enabling map of the territory in question. Keep in mind that perspective, timing, and communication are as important as the framework itself. You need the right model applied at the right time.
