Presence as Perception

Even though professionals are extolled to exhibit an executive presence, when you push for what that means you’ll find a variety of answers. Maybe you’ve had that experience yourself trying to get to the bottom of your own feedback. So while there’s buzz, there’s also confusion.

Earlier in this book, I posited several reasons why I believe there’s such an emphasis on presence. Perhaps it’s due to the evolving structure of decentralized companies or a sign of generational shifts in leadership. Whatever the cause, the effect is certain. People are being asked to strengthen the way they communicate and connect with others to increase their influence in looser and more disparate corporate structures.
