To design and build a deliverable, consultants must gather a great deal of data and gain insight about their client’s existing set of circumstances—for example, depending on the type of consulting, information is marshaled and synthesized about industry issues, legacy systems, existing performance standards, new performance requirements, general business conditions, the existing organizational structure, and the company’s culture, procedures, and existing documentation.
