GLOSSARY

BoomThe pole or telescoping arm on which a microphone is mounted. The term is often used by film crews to describe the entire microphone and pole set-up.
B-rollSupplemental footage that helps to support the main story. B-roll shots commonly include establishing shots as well as shot sequences that depict the content of an interview or narration, as well as help to cover any edits in that primary footage.
DollyEquipment designed to move the camera smoothly. A dolly can be a simple platform that runs on track, or a more elaborate cart with wheels.
DPDirector of Photography (also DOP) who oversees camera crews on a production. On smaller-scale productions, s/he often also serves as the lighting director, and even the director.
