What Is the Role of a Project Office?

How project offices are structured and what they do vary from organization to organization. However, across project offices, there are three main areas of responsibility: development, support, and control. The project office functions are listed in Table 3-1 under each of these areas.

The development functions are those that involve recruiting, training, and developing project managers. The goal is to provide a pool of experienced, talented project managers who are capable of tackling any project in the organization and of managing it successfully.
