One of the realities, particularly in small organizations or departments, is that the project manager is also a subject matter expert, expected to participate in projects as a team member, responsible for technical deliverables. While it is preferable for project managers to be dedicated to project management, this is not always feasible, especially in smaller organizations or those that pride themselves on their commitment to a flat, relatively unstructured style.
