What is this about and why is it important?
The concept of a project is fairly intuitive, but like many intuitive terms it is hard to define in a comprehensive and non-contentious way. It is always useful to understand the terms we use and to be able to explain them to other people. Unless the word ‘project’ is properly understood, the whole concept of project management will be at best flawed and at worst meaningless.
For many readers, this first section will be superfluous, but for those new to projects or anyone seeking to give definitions or describe projects to others, this is a good place to start.
