Similar to lighting and sound design, a projection design is made up of a series of moments within the performance in which designed elements are presented to the audience in sequence with the story unfolding onstage. These moments are carefully scripted by the designer and may be composed of one or a series of cues. In design terms, a cue is the combination of elements composed to look (or sound) a certain way and recorded into a device that allows for playback. For a projection designer, each of these cues might be composed of a series of sub-cues combined together to make the desired look or effect.
