You are a tester or you are responsible for some aspect of software quality assessment in your organization. This chapter is a guide to help you start with the RUP. You will find definitions of the major concepts we are using in the RUP relative to testing, our philosophy of testing, and a description of the key artifacts you may be responsible for, and we will introduce you to the major activities involving the tester.1
