In Pursuit of Darkness

You might not think it’s hard, really, to find an environment where it’s inherently, resolutely dark, but also interesting. A coal mine fits the bill. And you wouldn’t think it all that difficult to find a mine. I mean, it’s not like they move around or anything. They’re holes in the ground. Don’t have to worry about the weather or the light; it’s always the same, 7,500 feet under the earth’s surface.

The trick is getting down into a coal mine.
