As important as the pursuit of respect is in the global workplace, it is no less important in our homes and communities. The two really can’t be separated if there is to be any sustainable change in the workplace. I am sure that I’m not the first to notice that respect and civility seem to be taking a backseat to expediency in our high-tech, high-volume society. You can sense it in our interaction styles, the “in your face” behaviors glamorized on our television shows, and, regrettably, in the increasingly negative tone of our political discourse.
