Introduction

This chapter will weave together three strands: the scientific measurement of human movement, the technology that has enabled such measurement, and Meyerhold’s actor training. I will outline a history of human movement science and the technology that has enabled it since the Scientific Revolution, explaining how that history intersected with influential ideas about scientific management and the psychology of the reflex in Russia.
