A pacified labour?

The transformation of labour conflict

Introduction

This chapter argues that a fundamental transformation of labour conflict is taking place due to the effects of globalisation on labour and work. These structural changes will require significant alterations to both theory and research on the topic. The traditional method of equating labour conflict with strikes has become increasingly inappropriate. Some emblematic cases presented in this chapter highlight that theory and focus must be broadened to include both the full range of collective and individual expressions.
