In 1977, Kishwar Naheed a well-known Pakistani feminist writer and poet, faced imprisonment, removal from her government position, and surveillance by the criminal investigation unit when she published the translation of Simone de Beauvoir's book The Second Sex. The translation was banned by the government of that time on account of being vulgar (Akhter, 2012).
