Introduction
This chapter explores the changing approach to leadership at Yandex (often referred to as “the Russian Google”) in response to the tightening politics of the increasingly authoritarian Russian state. It considers the development of what we call a-political corporate leadership – a form of leadership that attempts to bracket out corporate engagement with broader political issues, but which embodies a constant tension (signaled by the hyphen), in that such attempts to stay beyond politics themselves constitute political acts and involve political (ir)responsibilities.
