Chapter 9The Four Laws
Although Matt wanted to be wealthy, an annoying voice in the back of his mind was telling him that making the sale in this way was wrong. Each morning leading up to the meeting with Thrive Airlines, he would flip‐flop between excited and stressed out. He often struggled with anxiety, but this was a different kind of anxious, and he had never felt quite right since meeting with Tony.
Kendra noticed the change. During an early morning breakfast, she asked, “What’s going on with you? We just got back from an amazing time in California.”
“I'm just a bit stressed at work, that's all,” Matt replied.
After a back‐and‐forth exchange that didn't really go anywhere, Kendra told Matt he should see a doctor, and Matt decided to take her advice.
After a routine examination, the doctor explained to Matt that he was struggling from anxiety and showing signs of burnout. Kendra thought it was strange that Matt had these feelings so soon after their vacation, but she had no idea about the potential sale he was obsessing about. The doctor prescribed benzodiazepines for generalized anxiety. However, since Matt usually tried to take as little medication as possible, he never picked up his prescription.
