Consider the Odds, Charlie Brown
I have seen a recurring Peanuts episode of Lucy holding a football and encouraging Charlie Brown to kick it. Charlie always gets suckered in, for just as he runs to kick the ball, Lucy always moves it. A surprised Charlie always kicks only air and lands on his bottom. Because we are familiar with Lucy’s ploy, we grin as she suckers Charlie in—again each fall as the cartoon is reprised.
