As fond as I am of saying that Security is not a technology discipline, the truth is that technology plays a big role in security as a discipline. Infosec is very much grounded in technology, and people often understand Security as something that has to do with Information Technology (IT*), even if they otherwise understand very little about security of data in general. That's OK; it is part of the evolution of any discipline from being something that is niche-y into an actual, legitimate part of successfully operating a business.
