Stand Out
Josh had hoped his boss would be happy to see him upon his return to the office, but he was more than happy. He was ecstatic when Josh told him he was coming back to work and was ready for a fresh start. First, his boss clapped his hands and shouted, “Yes!” Then he got up from his desk and gave Josh a high five, followed by a bear hug. He thought of Josh as a son as much as an employee, and, while he had been hoping Josh would return to work, he had prepared himself for the worst.
“We missed you around here. It’s great to have you back. I thought we might have lost you,” he said.
“You didn’t lose me. You just got a better me,” Josh said before thanking his boss for the time off. “The vacation really helped me gain clarity,” he said.
“I’m just glad it did you some good.”
“It was more than good. It was life changing,” Josh said, nodding his head. “Thank you again. I’m ready to get to work,” he added before giving his boss another high five. Then he walked out the door and went to his desk, as his colleagues watched his every move.
Before he sat down, he took a pot with soil, planted the seed the farmer had given him, and placed it on his desk. His dad had always said that mustard seeds were the smallest of seeds, yet they became the largest of all garden plants, so he put the pot on his desk to remind himself that serving others was about the little things—and ...
