Key Issues for Key Stages
This chapter looks at some of the characteristic features of the curriculum within each phase of education. Suggestions are made about the SENCo’s role in helping colleagues plan and deliver a differentiated ‘Programme of Study’ facilitating inclusive education for all pupils, including those with SEN.
Early years (0–5 years)
The main characteristic of the early years curriculum is that it is firmly based on the knowledge of children’s development. Play is given a prominent place, but play which is structured to encourage intellectual, social, aesthetic and physical development.
