Working with People

The Consultative Role

This chapter looks at these aspects of the SENCo’s consultative role:

  • working with pupils: considering pupil perspectives and rights
  • working in partnership with parents/carers: dealing with stress and complaints
  • working with colleagues: giving support and training
  • working with governors.

Each section will look both at the personal skills of the SENCo and features of the whole school approach, which together contribute to effective development of the consultative role.
