How Big Is Big Enough?
Just because a movie is short doesn’t mean that the crew is small. There may be fewer scenes in a short, but you shoot them the same way you would a feature. Therefore, your personnel needs are not necessarily dramatically different for a short than would be the case for a longer film. The logistical demands of a short production can fall anywhere within a broad spectrum, and the crew required will vary accordingly. The beautiful but technically complex three-strip Technicolor process was first demonstrated through a very colorful short, and you can be sure that that project required a very large crew to handle everything from the cumbersome camera to the florid costumes.
