Crawford’s slip

What the tool is

Crawford’s slip was originated by a Dr C.C. Crawford of the University of Southern California in the 1920s and so named, perhaps rather unimaginatively, because participants write their ideas on slips of paper.

When to use it

  • When time is limited and you need a lot of ideas but have little time for discussion.
  • When people are reluctant to speak out in front of the group.

The method works particularly well in cultures or organisations where people are reserved and prefer to contribute anonymously.

What you will need

  • Paper (or sticky notes) and pens.
