Identify Potential Protégés

How do you identify the right protégés to sponsor? You certainly have to spot top performers with a strong work ethic, but that’s not enough. You want a protégé who will reward your investment by enabling you to work better; who will provide loyalty to both you and the organization; and who will fill a gap in your abilities and the enterprise’s.

After all, you’re not sponsoring someone just for your own benefit. You’re also doing it for the sake of the enterprise where you work. If you’re at the top of your organization (or planning to get there one day), you might even be sponsoring someone who will one day take the reins and perpetuate your vision.
