Introduction

This story first came to me in a series of battered files stuffed with handwritten notes. Their author, who chooses to remain anonymous, had wished to share certain rather unusual experiences recorded in those notes, and we have simply converted his files into the chapters that follow.

That much is simple to explain. Far less simple, and perhaps impossible to explain, is the specific nature of the experiences documented in those files. I suspect you will be as skeptical about it as I was. And I admit, even now, it is hard for me to believe that these events indeed happened. Yet the evidence is irrefutable.
