The summer before Emma Bickford's senior year of college, she knew her softball team, of which she was the captain, faced a challenge in the coming season. After years of the COVID‐19 pandemic had disrupted regular seasons, the team had lost some of its cohesiveness and drive. “I knew that the results of our games weren't reflecting how good a team we were. And since it was my final year, and my class's final year, I was like, ‘Okay, no more excuses. We have to figure this out,’” Emma said.
