GENERATING AND SELECTING BOX 3 IDEAS

Now that you’ve identified weak signals, solidified your strategic intent, and identified your organization’s core competencies, you can begin brainstorming Box 3 ideas. These ideas make a nonlinear change in one or more of the following dimensions: the customer being served, the value proposition to the customer, or the value chain to deliver the value proposition. As described earlier, a Box 3 idea lies at the intersection of two or more nonlinear shifts in the industry: customer discontinuities, disruptive technologies, future competitors, distribution channels, or regulatory changes.
