Toyota consistently employs the scientific problem-solving method, PDCA, to solve problems and increase its boundaries of knowledge. Employees assess the current condition against the standard, and if the current condition meets the standard, they assess the standard against the ideal. Clearly defining the gap between what is and what should be is the “Plan” part of PDCA. Then comes the “Do” part of making educated hypotheses.
