It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

When it comes to magic numbers, 59 ½ has it all over magic numbers in professional sports. In professional sports, toward the end of a season, a magic number provides fans with something new to obsess about as they mull over how many games their favorite team would have to win to assure themselves of winning a championship. For example, if the Red Sox are leading the Yankees in the standings in the last week of the season and have a magic number of three, it means that any combination of three Red Sox wins or Yankee losses would make the Red Sox the division champions.
