By now, it should be clear that the popularity of social networking is a trend that’s here to stay. In the near future, it’s predicted that more than half the world’s population online will participate in some form of social networking. In certain demographics, that number is much higher. With an estimated 1.5 billion people online by 2011, that’s a lot of social networkers.[1]

The challenge is that the world of social networking is evolving rapidly. The basic tenets of successful networking may have developed slowly over time, but the impact of fast-changing Web 2.0—and soon, Web 3.0—technology keeps social networking in a rapid state of evolution and reinvention.
