9 ANTAGONISTS
Antagonists can take many forms – and are not always personified:
- In Chernobyl, the antagonist is the Soviet power structure.
- In Fauda, the antagonist is dependent on POV. For the Israeli government, Hamas is the main antagonist. For Hamas, it’s the Israeli government. This series does a commendable job depicting sympathetic perspectives from both sides of the conflict, but my sources tell me that there were no Arabs represented in the Fauda writers’ room.
- In Le Bureau des Légendes, while our protagonist, French spy Guillaume Debailly (Mathieu Kassovitz) faces myriad threats across the globe, from ISIS to the KGB, his main antagonist is the past. Same with the Duke of Hastings Simon Basset’s ...
